Hi, I’m Bill, an automotive painter by day, hobby woodworker by night. I shopped everywhere for the ideal desk and file cabinet for my newly remodeled office, but nothing came close to what I envisioned. Either it cost too much, or it was a piece of junk. So my wife says, “why don’t you just build one exactly the way you want?” I figured it would come to that. After I sketched out a simple idea, I went to work. It’s constructed from white pine, birch plywood, 3/4″ oak (for the drawer fronts) and laminate flooring for the top. The shelf for the computer is made from welded steel tubing and angle iron. The 8 filing cabinet drawers open smoothly on roller tracks. A power supply unit is mounted under the desktop. All the raw pine was finished with Rustoleum hammered metal copper paint, the drawer oak fronts were done in golden oak stain and Minwax semi-gloss poly.
