Clamp Storage Ideas for Your Workshop.

Clamp Storage Ideas for Your Workshop.

A few years ago, I made some clamp storage racks for my shop that I have now outgrown. I have more clamps now and some of the storage methods weren’t working out.

The best part about my old system is that it utilizes the space behind my door for storage. This is often overlooked real estate in a small workshop.

Pipe Clamp Storage

Since my pipe clamps are my heaviest clamps, I glued together two strips of 3/4″ (18mm) plywood to make a thicker, sturdier rack.

I chopped it into blocks and then cut these into wedge shapes using my miter saw.

Using my table saw, I cut a little off the ends, creating pieces with five edges.

I glued and screwed these onto a backer board.

Then mounted it to the wall and added the clamps.

Bar Clamp Storage

Using another double-thick plywood board, I cut a series of slots, making a few passes with my table saw blade to make each slot wide enough for the clamps to slide into.

I chamfered the ends of each slot to make it easier to guide to clamps into. Then I attached this to a backer board.

Kreg Clamp Storage

I have a number of Kreg clamps. My favorites are their bar clamps, but their handles stick out too far and would block my door from opening all the way if I hung them like my other bar clamps.  I made this box to store them parallel to the wall, plus it has storage for other clamps.

I glued two slotted and two non-slotted blocks to the back.

The bar clamps will slide all the way through, so I made some wide slots using some small blocks glued between the corner blocks and a center divider.

C-Clamp Storage

My c-clamp storage rack is completely no-frills. It’s basically a towel rack!

Misc. Clamp Storage

Finally, I screwed a block into the wall to hold my wooden clamp and drove a screw into the wall to hold my strap clamp. Hey, some things just don’t need to be complicated!

  1. thanks for the inspiration, time for me to do mine. for the smaller clamps I am going to use french cleats. Each clamp holder can be revised or relocated quickly

  2. Great work.

Wish I had so many ‘Kreg’ clamps, but here in South Africa, they cost about R800 each, that equates to about $60 each……..

  3. Thanks for the ideas regarding all the different clamp styles and how to store them. This will be something I’ll do in my wood working area soonest to get them organized.

I really appreciate your work and commentary on how things come together. Not editing out the mistakes and talking us through them has really helped me regarding some of my own projects. Thanks again!

  4. I loved your videos, but seeing you are a cat-man, you have a follower for life, well the few I have left. Thanks for making man stuff easy for us girls too, even the older ones like me who discovered woodworking fairly late in life.
